A true story of the West!
The Great Beckoning unwraps a little-known tale of the American West, a long, winding epic of glorious triumphs and heart-crushing tragedies – and they’re all true.
Our story charges through the founding of the United States and its hard-fought western movements to the rise of the rails and the resulting battles over horsepower, steam power, and the internal combustion engine. These cultural shocks drive our story along the Ozark Trail to U.S. Highway 66, the legendary Mother Road now celebrating its 100th anniversary. We see how these historic pulses create numerous communities like Sapulpa, Oklahoma, which springs from a boisterous railyard to anchor a mythic concrete ribbon stretching from Chicago to Los Angeles. And yet its boom times end far too soon, forcing Sapulpa and other Route 66 landmarks to adapt or die.
The Great Beckoning provides a fast-paced ride through these dynamic days, using Sapulpa, Oklahoma, as its lens. Book One guides readers through numerous Muscogee (Creek) Nation tragedies, the Ozark Trail’s discovery, and its use by the Frisco Railroad to help found our centerpiece community. The two prosper for a time as Sapulpa becomes the nation’s second fastest-growing city, only to see painful divisions spur the great divorce of 1928. Book Two picks up our tale with the rise, fall, and renewal of Route 66. Bypassed just when greatness approached, Sapulpa emerges from those trials and tribulations to reach toward its full potential.
It’s a tale of risks and rewards, lofty dreams and crippling nightmares… and it all lies before you! Just open the covers and begin!
