Real Love
After 31 years, they cut me loose,
Like a withered old vine that didn’t produce.
It’s true I’ve seen some better days,
But I can’t say it’s time to change my ways.
The things they said cut real deep
To a heart crying out for eternal sleep.
I wish I had it all figured out
But nothing’s set in this life full of doubt
Except love.
Real love.
Forgiving love.
Sustaining love.
Uplifting love.
Unburdened love.
Fulfilling love.
His gift of love.
I have no clue where I’ll go from here.
My path just doesn’t seem very clear.
But I’m not going to let that bother me
When the blood of Christ has set me free.
The lies of this world would cut me short
If I let my heart wallow in such sport.
But I’ve heard the truth of God’s great plan
And I know of nothing greater than
His love.
Real love.
Impassioned love.
Unyielding love.
Enduring love.
Embracing love.
Unfailing love.
His gift of love.
It’d be so easy to give in to hate
And let it find reasons for my fate
That free my soul of painful guilt
From all the problems that I’ve built.
But I know the choices that I’ve made,
The mistakes I’ve caused, the debts I’ve paid,
Were washed away at Calvary
By the man who gave His life for me
in love.
Real love.
Unfettered love.
Redeeming love.
Unbroken love.
Revealing love.
Unwavering love.
His gift of love.
It’s this that gave my heart its life
And saw me through all sorts of strife.
And in this faith you too may abide
Until we reach the other side
through love.
Real love.
Forgiving love.
Sustaining love.
Uplifting love.
Unburdened love.
Fulfilling love.
His gift of love.
