Reaching for the Sky

Everything I have could be yours, if you want it.

Every dream I chase I'd share with you, if you wish it.

Everything I am I'd give to you, if you'd take it.

Just tell me you feel the same way, too.

Jack leans against the swing, tugs hard on that steel chain,

And reaches for the sky, pretending he's an old biplane.

Then he spies his precious Sandy running in the sun,

So he screeches to a stop just to watch her having fun.

Many times he's pondered just how he could say

What he feels when he sees her each and every day.

Yet he doubts such a beauty would care to hear his words,

So he practices, and practices, till he knows it all backwards...

My teeth were never straight, and on their best days none too bright,

My smile's a little kooky and my ears don't hang just right.

But my eyes will never stray from the love I see in you,

And my heart will never stand for me to ever be untrue.

Everything I have could be yours, if you want it.

Every dream I chase I'd share with you, if you wish it.

Everything I am I'd give to you, if you'd take it.

Just tell me you feel the same way, too.

Sucking in a deep breath, he steps out for the dame,

Then considers how he'll just mess up, and hangs his head in shame.

Consumed by his woes, he walks blindly past Carrie Sue,

And doesn't see the wound she bares longing for a breakthrough.

For she too has a story to tell and feelings to impart

From playing with Jack all those years and learning what's in his heart.

She knows he cares for Sandy, and she considers her a friend,

So Carrie Sue just bides her time, waiting to tell her end...

I know I'm not as cute as her, and my nose is rather plain,

I've got freckles almost everywhere and hair like a lion's mane.

But my eyes will never stray from the love I see in you,

And my heart will never stand for me to be untrue.

Everything I have could be yours, if you want it.

Every dream I chase I'd share with you, if you wish it.

Everything I am I'd give to you, if you'd take it.

Just tell me you feel the same way, too.
